KIU Titans secured a crucial 81-77 victory over the Nam Blazers in Game Two of the National Basketball League Playoffs semifinals on Sunday at Lugogo, leveling the series at 1-1.
The Titans appeared to be cruising to an easy win after opening up a commanding 21-point lead.
However, the Nam Blazers mounted an impressive comeback in the final quarter, going on a 10-0 run, and later threaded another run to cut the deficit just five points with three minutes remaining. Despite their valiant effort, the Blazers were unable to close the gap completely.
Julius Lutwama’s Titans managed to hold on to their lead, securing the win in front of a sizeable crowd at Lugogo.
The Blazers struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 6-for-31 from three-point range, despite out-rebounding the Titans 59-42.
KIU’s victory was fueled by a balanced attack, with five players scoring in double digits.
Peter Obleng led the way with 19 points, followed by Kasereka Tembo with 16, Joel Lukoji with 13, and both Edgar Munaaba and Collins Kasujja contributing 10 points each.
For the Blazers, Innocent Ochera posted a game-high 25 points, with Jimmy Williams adding 21. Joseph Chuma recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but their efforts weren’t enough to overcome the Titans’ balanced offensive display.
