Uganda’s Tarsis Orogot booked a spot in the Men’s 200m semifinals at the ongoing Paris Olympics in brilliant fashion.
Orogot clocked a time of 20:32 to win his heat.
Orogot, a student at the University of Alabama in the United States, overcame a less-than-ideal start with a powerful finish in the last 100 meters.
His strong performance ensured he finished first in Heat Two. He will be joined in the semifinals by Mccoy Wanya of the Bahamas and Renan Correa of Brazil, who also qualified from Heat Two.
The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 7.
Orogot has followed in the footsteps of Davis Kamoga, the last Ugandan sprinter to make an Olympic appearance. Kamoga won a bronze medal in the 400m at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
