Uganda Premier League (UPL) club Wakiso Giants have secured an international friendly with prominent Tanzania Premier League side, Kagera Sugar.
The Purple Sharks will host the Bukoba-based side on Saturday, August 10 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. The event will be the very first of a kind for the UPL side.
According to the club, the match is not just any ordinary friendly fixture, but also a proper and timely test for newly appointed head coach, Steven Bengo.
Bengo, a former Uganda Cranes legend is also wary of the huge task coming up. Speaking ahead of the match, the coach said:

“This is a momentous occasion for Wakiso Giants. Playing against an international team like Kagera Sugar is a fantastic chance to showcase our abilities and test our strategies.”
“The players are highly motivated, and we aim to deliver a performance that will make our fans proud,” Bengo added, anticipating a thrilling and competitive encounter.
Fans will have to part with UGX 20,000 to directly be part of the event in Wakiso, and Bengo reiterates it will be an excellent opportunity to measure his side’s preparedness ahead of the new season.

“Their reputation as a strong team in Tanzania means they will provide a stern test for our squad. Moreover, this match offers our fans the first glimpse of our latest signings in the famous Wakiso Giants colors,” Bengo stated.
Under Bengo, and his assistant Tonny Mawejje, the Purple Sharks have so far unveiled Hudson Mbalire from Catda, Vincent Zziwa from BUL, Derrick Kaija from UPDF and Zambian international Eric Kabamba.
In the Tanzania Premier League last season, Kagera finished tenth of 16 teams, with 34 points from 30 games.
Meanwhile, the Purple Sharks collected 32 points from 29 games to finish eleventh of 16 UPL teams, and secure another season in the top division.
