Liverpool missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea in the summer and could battle another rival London team for their latest midfield target in January
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta are battling it out at the top of the Premier League and, if reports are correct, could soon be battling it out for the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andre
Liverpool might have completed a £150m midfield overhaul this summer, but the jury remains out on whether they sufficiently replaced Fabinho.
The Reds brought in Alexis Mac Allister Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberchh during the summer months, having waved off, along with the Brazilian, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
It was only after missing out on both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea that Liverpool moved for Endo, with the Japan international ultimately proving to be a surprise replacement for Fabinho as a defensive midfielder. Yet the 30-year-old has started just one Premier League match to date, with Mac Allister instead favoured in a deeper role even though it is not his preferred position.
The Argentine’s performances in the role have divided opinion, with many wanting to see the World Cup winner unleashed further forward in his natural attacking role. But with Endo still adapting to English football and Stefan Bajcetic being nursed back from long-term injury, needs must for Jurgen Klopp.
Despite that spending splurge in the summer, the Reds’ engine-room revamp might not be complete yet as they continue to be linked with a move for Andre Trindade following confirmed interest in the Brazil international in the summer.
