Parish Priest Arrested for Alleged Illegal Timber Cutting and Land Encroachment in Bugoma Forest Reserve

In Kikuube district, the National Forest Authority (NFA) has taken into custody the Parish Priest of Rwemisanga Catholic Parish, known only as Fr. Rodgers, on accusations of encroaching on Bugoma forest reserve land and engaging in illegal timber cutting from the protected natural forest.

Fr. Rodgers was apprehended on Sunday by a team of NFA officials at his timber yard in Rwemisanga parish, as stated by Alex Obonyo, the NFA Kisindi Sector Manager.

According to Obonyo, the suspect and his associates were caught transporting timber from Bugoma forest reserve based on information provided by informants who notified NFA officials.

Prior to the arrest, the informants guided the NFA operation team to the location where the suspect had stored the timber.

During the operation, more than 400 pieces of timber, comprising various tree species such as Mahogany and Muvule, were confiscated.

Following the arrest, the suspect was transferred to NFA’s headquarters in Kampala for further handling, informed Obonyo.
