Uganda is gearing up to dispatch around 200 pilgrims to Butiama in the Mara region of Tanzania, marking the 25th anniversary of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s passing and the revival of the East African Community.
Dr. Tendo Kisembo, CEO of Afrika Mashariki Fest, revealed that the pilgrims will be ceremonially sent off from Kololo Airstrip on October 12th. He underscored the significance of this journey, not only as a tribute to Nyerere but also as a symbolic gesture of unity and collaboration among East African nations.
“In commemorating Mwalimu Nyerere’s legacy and the resurgence of the East African Community, it is crucial to involve our youth in regional integration efforts,” Dr. Kisembo emphasized. He called upon EAC leaders to actively support and engage young people in decision-making processes, highlighting their role in shaping the future of the region.
The pilgrimage to Butiama holds special meaning for many Ugandans and East Africans, reflecting a shared heritage and aspirations for regional unity and development.
