Watoto Church is set to hold a Golf Fundraising Tournament this Saturday at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.
The event aims to raise funds to support the skilling of young adults by resourcing Watoto’s Vocational and Technical Institute.
Pastor Eddie Mwesigye of Watoto Church emphasized the church’s long-standing commitment to community service.
“When this Church was spreading the gospel in the beginning, team leaders Pastor Gary and wife Marilyn Skinner were moved by the need to cater for the orphans in this nation.
“In the 1980s, Uganda was the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and many children lost their parents. As a church, we don’t just come on Sunday to preach; we believe that community is at the heart of our God,” said Pastor Mwesigye.

“We were moved to cater for the orphans and widows, leading to the establishment of Watoto Church Ministries in 1994. We have been serving the community for the last 30 years.
“With more students joining the institute to meet the growing demand for excellent technical skills in the marketplace, the Hope Vocational and Technical Institute requires significant investment in human resources and equipment.
“We are grateful to every individual and all our partners who have come on board to support this cause.”

The tournament promises to bring together golf enthusiasts, professionals, and newcomers for a day of friendly competition and philanthropy.
Derick Muhumuza, Competition and PR Secretary at the Uganda Golf Club, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Watoto.
“We are very privileged to have Watoto partner with Uganda Golf Club for this fundraiser. The last one was in 2019, and we are glad to have you back. We are looking forward to making this an annual event.”
Muhumuza also highlighted the importance of fostering skills within youth and children. “Watoto takes care of over 3,000 children, who represent an untapped pool of potential golf talent in the country. We are exploring ways to develop that talent, beyond just fundraising for this event.”

“We are looking forward to a great tournament on Saturday. For those who are not golfers, come to the club on the day, try to learn the game, and I can tell you that golf is the best decision you will ever make.”
The tournament has attracted several partners, including Opportunity Bank, Power FM, Suzuki by CFAO, Stanbic Bank, and Uganda Airlines, among others. The event will also feature a training clinic for 30 interested players, where professionals will be available to provide guidance and training.
All proceeds from the event will go towards enhancing the capabilities of the Watoto Vocational and Technical Institute, empowering young adults with the skills they need for the future.
