Athlete: Tarsis Orogot
Event: Men’s 200m, Round One – Heat 2
Date: Monday, August 5
Time: 9:02pm
Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot is set to compete in the Men’s 200m event at the Paris Olympics, aiming for a place in the semifinals.
He will line up in the second heat on Monday, where the top three finishers in each heat will advance directly to the semifinals.
Those who do not make the top three will move to the Repechage Round, unless they did not start (DNS), did not finish (DNF), or were disqualified (DQ).

Orogot’s participation is historic as he is the first Ugandan to compete in the 200m at the Olympics in 32 years, following Francis Ogola’s appearance at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Additionally, he is the first Ugandan sprinter to compete at the Games since Davis Kamoga, who won a bronze medal in the 400m at the 1996 Olympics.
Winning a medal in a field that includes notable athletes like Noah Lyles (USA), Andre De Grasse (Canada), Kenny Bednarek (USA), Letsile Tebogo (Botswana), and Erriyon Knighton (USA) would be a big ask for Orogot.

His main goal is to secure a place in the final having reached the semifinals at the World Championships in Eugene (2022) and Bucharest (2023).
Currently ranked 13th in the world, Orogot is expected to advance from Heat Two alongside Jamaica’s Andrew Hudson.
Orogot enters the Games with a boost of confidence, having twice lowered his national record this year with times of 19.90 seconds in mid-April and 19.75 seconds in mid-May in Gainesville.
The other athlete for Uganda in action on Monday is Leonard Chemutai who will be competing in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase.
Chemutai will be in Heat One at 7:04pm.
The first 5 in each heat will advance to the Final.
Did you know – Orogot, born in Soroti, currently resides in the United States where he is a student at the University of Alabama.
