Defending champions Pirates RFC will host the concluding leg of the National Rugby Sevens Series, as the Uganda Rugby Union has unveiled the 2024 season schedule.
This year’s series will span seven circuits.
The series is set to commence on August 10-11 with the Entebbe 7s, hosted by the Mongers, and will wrap up on October 5-6 with the Rujumba 7s at the Pirates’ home ground.
Pirates RFC, who were crowned the 2023 National Rugby Sevens Champions, are expected to fiercely defend their title.
They finished the previous season at the top of the leaderboard with 134 points, securing a double championship having won the league as well.
The Heathens and KOBs followed in second and third place with 114 and 109 points, respectively, while the Jinja Hippos secured fourth place with 103 points.
That final leg hosted by Pirates will once again be named Rujumba 7s, as the club continue to remember their fallen heroes including Henry Rujumba who joined the club in 1998 before passing away in 2015.
The 2024 Men’s Series will feature 16 teams per circuit, comprising 12 core teams and 4 invitational teams selected by the Uganda Rugby Union.
The core teams are mandated to participate in all circuits throughout the series.
The core teams for this year’s series include Pirates (2023 Winners), Heathens (2023 Runners Up), Kobs, Hippos, Buffaloes, Impis, Mongers, Warriors, Rhinos, Rams, Walukuba, and Elgon Wolves.
At the end of the series, the teams ranked 11th and 12th will face relegation.
For the women’s series, it will feature Eight teams per circuit, consisting of 6 core teams and 2 invitational teams.
The Core Teams for Women’s Series are Black Panthers (2023 Winners), Avengers (2023 Runners Up), Thunderbirds,
Nile Rapids, She Wolves, Kitgum Queens
At the end of the series, the 6th placed core team will face relegation.

*Kyabazinga 7s (14-15 September) hosted by Walukuba Barbarians at Bugembe Stadium, Jinja
Mbarara 7s (28-29 September) hosted by Mustangs at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara
Rujumba 7s (5-6 October) hosted by Pirates at Kings Park, Bweyogerere
