African Players, Coaches, and Referees Set for NBA 2K25 Summer League

Twenty-five basketball coaches from 15 African countries have been chosen to participate in the NBA 2K25 Summer League, scheduled in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 12 to 22, 2024. This initiative, part of the Africa Coaches Program, underscores NBA Africa’s and Basketball Africa League’s commitment to enhancing coaching expertise across the continent, fostering basketball development, and bolstering the on-court quality.

Among the selected coaches are representatives from teams that competed in the 2024 BAL season, including Al Ahly (Egypt), Bangui Sporting Club (Central Africa Republic), City Oilers (Uganda), FUS de Rabat (Morocco), Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria), and US Monastir (Tunisia). Ogoh Odaudu, head coach of Rivers Hoopers and 2024 BAL Coach of the Year, brings extensive experience from leading his team to multiple Nigerian Premier League titles and coaching the Nigerian national team since 2019.

Francois Enyegue from Cameroon and Emmanuel Mavomo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo return for their third consecutive year in the Summer League, highlighting their coaching prowess and previous engagements with NBA teams.

Three former BAL players, John Wilkins, Mohamed Gaddour, and Radouane Slimane, are transitioning to coaching roles with NBA teams like the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat respectively, demonstrating a pathway for player development into coaching.

Adding to the diversity, NBA Academy Africa coaches Goitsemang Ditsheko (South Africa) and Karim Nesba (Morocco) will contribute their expertise to the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. Notably, this year’s program includes three female coaches – Sofia Bey (Morocco), Aliaa Mahmoud Mohamed (Egypt), and Ruth Bibeyi (Gabon) – marking a significant stride towards gender inclusivity in basketball coaching.

The Africa Coaches Program aims to empower the next generation of African basketball leaders, ensuring a robust pipeline of talent and fostering a sustainable basketball ecosystem on the continent.
