Uganda to Receive 10,000 Mpox Vaccine Doses Next Week

Uganda is set to receive 10,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine next week, donated by the US government through the Africa CDC. The arrival of these vaccines comes as the country faces a rise in Mpox cases.

During a press briefing, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed that mass vaccination campaigns would begin next month in areas experiencing active transmission. She stressed the importance of the vaccine in curbing the disease's spread.

Dr. Mary Boyd, speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, reassured the public of the vaccine's safety, citing endorsements from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In addition to the vaccine doses, the US has also provided Uganda with 10,000 testing kits to improve Mpox detection and treatment.

"This partnership highlights the global effort to fight Mpox and strengthen Uganda's healthcare system," Dr. Boyd remarked.

As the vaccine rollout preparations continue, the Ministry of Health urges the public to remain vigilant and follow preventive measures.
